Botan International as an organization of Kurdish Journalism Training held Kurdish Digital Journalism Workshops at its office in Diyarbakır.

The participants received the education of Kurdish Diction workshop by Serdar Canan, a Podcast workshop by Hatice Kamer, a Program of Presenter workshop by Mehdi Mutlu, and a Photo-Journalism workshop by Sertaç Kayar.

Photo is a language of journalism. If photo doesn’t try to convey an idea, and if there is no idea in the background of the journalist’s mind, journalist cannot take a good photo.

Sertac Kayar

If you want to have good presentation you need to speak with the voice from the diaphragm. Presentation is like an illusion.

Mehdi Mutlu

The most important thing in journalism is correct diction and proper breathing. If you are not breathing correctly from the diaphragm, your voice will not be enough for a sentence. For this reason you should always focus on breathing and do exercises to develop your diaphragm.

Sardar Canan

After you decide to prepare someone’s story as a podcast, you will see that the story will come by itself. The important thing is that it should be you aim. Don’t wait for people to see your effort. You should show them your hard work.

Hatice Kamer

The founder of Botan International Murat Bayram presented the workshops and they lasted for 3 days.

What does Botan International do?

In 2020 Botan International was founded in Balveren, Sirnak, and opened its Diyarbakır office in 2021.

Botan International became the first institution of Kurdish journalism training in the history of the Turkish state and 558 people participated in its training. They built a studio and news center for journalists in partnership with Reporters Without Borders (RSF). In this studio, 450 video programs and news were made there in one year. It is still open to all journalists and is free. Both institutions prepared and published the Digital Journalism e-book.

Botan International activated botantimes.com at the end of 2022 and started to publish a weekly magazine called Botan Times in 2023.
