What are the favorite foods of Kurdish women?

A few days ago, my friend and I were looking at the results of our survey. After a few slides, my friend asked, “Why did you ask that question? The question was about the love of food. We asked the Kurdish women what sort of food and drinks they like.

A couple of months ago, I searched “Kürt kadınları”, “Kurdish people” and “Kurdish women” into Google and looked at photographes. If you look at also, you will see there is not much difference between them, and Kurds are a monolithic and homogeneous group on the Internet. According to Google, Kurds are soldiers, dancers, and partisans.

It is not a problem of the Google, Kurds are known in this way both in Turkey and internationally. The reason is that Kurds are a political and homogeneous group, and everyone is interested in them. Apart from that, people uninterested in anything about the Kurds. When we research something else, many people are surprised and say, “Why did you ask this question?”

The answer to this question is, in fact, my motivation for conducting this survey. Years ago, there was a political period when everyone was asking the Kurdish leaders what the Kurds were thinking and what they were going to do. I notice that everyone was talking about the Kurds. For example, the chairman of the Diyarbakır branch of the party AK said that the Kurds would support President Erdoğan, and the HDP chairman said that the Kurds would vote for “their” party, namely the HDP. At the time, I concluded that the two sides did not even know each other very well. In an interview that year, I said, “We want to make the Kurds of the north and the south aware of each other and give information about each other in their aganda.” and the journalist was surprised. I said, “You are interested in politics, do you know how many inhabitants there are in the south and how many parties there are? He only knew the names of the PDK and the YNK. This was not due to the journalist’s ignorance but to the situation itself.

First of all, the Kurds are not homogeneous and have a life besides politics. Also, I wonder about the Kurds, and I want people to look at them from different perspectives. They should get to know them objectively. In other words: We need a perspective that includes all parts of the Kurds. We know very well that it is not easy to break away from politics, nor is it right to turn our backs on it. But we should gradually take into account the heterogeneity of politics and other areas of life.

This is why we are interested in everything Kurdish, except Kurdish politics. And that is why we asked Kurdish women what they like to eat and drink.

Our survey was conducted personally with 1123 Kurdish women in Bingöl, Diyarbakır, Hakkari, Mardin, Siirt, Şırnak, Tunceli, Van, Adıyaman, Gaziantep, Iğdır, Malatya, Şanlıurfa, Adana, Mersin, Ankara, İstanbul and İzmir.

The answers and details of this question can be found in the following two tables.
