Instagram, one of the biggest social media sites has been banned in Turkey for three days. Many users are using a VPN (virtual private network) to access it.
There are 21 private VPNs banned in Turkey, according to the Association for Freedom of Self-Expression website.
What Happened?
On the 2nd of the 8th month, the Knowledge and Technology Agency (BTK) banned the Instagram website. According to the news on the Medyascope website, the Instagram website was banned for “insulting Atatürk”, “sexual abuse of children”, and “sweetening alcohol and intoxicating substances”.
The company Meta, which owns Instagram, is a company in the United States of America. The same company also owns Facebook and WhatsApp.
Instagram is a photo and video sharing social networking service owned by Meta Platforms. Instagram was introduced in January 2011 and had reached 400 million users.
